Infiltration Testing
Optimising your drainage strategy
Infiltration testing confirms whether surface water can be safely discharged to ground and is a key requirement for SuDS strategies and planning approval.
Our BRE 365-compliant testing assesses the infiltration potential at your site and optimises your drainage strategy.

What is an Infiltration Test?
Most drainage-related planning conditions recommend that infiltration testing (sometimes referred to as soakaway testing) should be undertaken in line with the guidance offered in BRE Digest 365.
This guidance requires the excavation of one or more test pits, which are rapidly infilled with water. Subsequent water level readings are used to understand the drainage potential of the local ground conditions.
Interpretation of the test results is used to calculate a site-specific infiltration rate, which is essential for designing and sizing drainage components such as soakaways, infiltration basins or permeable paving, in line with current design standards.
Why do I need an Infiltration Test?
Planning applications for new development sites are often required to provide Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) to manage stormwater runoff.
In line with the drainage hierarchy, drainage systems should, wherever possible, discharge surface water runoff from impermeable areas into the surrounding ground.
An infiltration test may be required to establish whether ground conditions are suitable for the use of infiltration drainage solutions.
