Job Description:

Do you have the ambition, enthusiasm and creativity to support the continued growth of our flood risk consultancy services and provide technical leadership for our team of flood risk consultants?

If so, we are interested in talking to you about our significant growth plans to deliver specialist advice on groundwater, flood risk, and drainage, creating market leading environmental consultancy reports.  You would be working with property professionals, developers, and asset managers in the residential, commercial, insurance and financial sectors to deliver our innovative environmental information. The role will include team management, technical oversight and review, to enhance our team’s capability. You will help to develop and promote our specialist expertise in flood risk assessment and the development of new services, including the launch of our FloodSmart Analytics tool and UK flooding from all sources model. Previous roles will have given you an understanding of project management and client interaction, particularly the value of building customer relationships. A minimum of 10 years’ experience of working in industry is preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead on the delivery of technical interpretative reports on flood investigations, drainage and flood risk assessments.
  • Assess site suitability for development subject to planning requirements for flood risk.
  • Recommend appropriate flood mitigation measures.
  • Undertake due diligence reviews of flood risk to support commercial site purchase.
  • Write and review technical interpretative reports on flood risk, assisting junior consultants as required.
  • Manage and mentor a team in the delivery of technical reports and support their training and development.
  • Support GeoSmart’s commercial development plans, taking an active role in developing new clients, securing work and achieving business development revenue targets.
  • Represent GeoSmart at meetings, conferences, CPD seminars, etc.
  • Undertake external consultations with regulatory bodies (such as Local Authorities and Environment Agency).
  • Manage client accounts, understanding their requirements and taking responsibility to deliver these.
  • Prepare and review proposals.
  • Manage projects, understand required time inputs and deliver in time to budget.
  • Undertake travel for business development and site walkovers.

Role competencies and experience:

  • An appropriate geoscience degree and postgraduate qualification.
  • Working towards or have a professional accreditation with CIWEM or similar.
  • Project and team management experience.
  • A good understanding of winning environmental consultancy business.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Experience in technical report writing, reviewing.
  • Enthusiastic and willing, with a strong team player attitude.
  • Innovative outlook and ability to commercialise technical ideas.
  • Experience and technical background in using GIS and modelling software.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 per annum
